Skin Biopsy

Risks

Your provider will discuss the possible risks of a biopsy before the procedure. Depending on the location of the growth and where the biopsy is performed, the risks and complications may vary. Those risks and complications can include, but are not limited to:

  • Scarring
  • Bleeding
  • Discoloration
  • Adverse reactions to anesthesia
  • Infection
  • Pain
  • Numbness at the biopsy site

The biopsy usually takes place at your provider’s office or at the clinic or hospital. Although complications after the procedure are uncommon, it’s important to contact your provider immediately if they occur.
